How
have you developed personally since your last album?
I have just
grown up so much since the last album. I've had so many personal
growth experiences.
In what ways
do you think this is reflected on your new album, "Hotel Paper?"
Most of my own
experiences are on this album and more personal feelings.
You've been
very successful at avoiding being put in the "teen" category
along with other artists close to your age like Mandy Moore, Jessica
Simpson, Avril Lavigne, etc. Instead, when people think about you,
they think of a young singer-songwriter. How do you think you were
able to accomplish this?
I pride myself
as a songwriter. I try to make songs that I can really feel and
live with in the future.
According to
interviews I've read, your father is Irish and your mother is of
Dutch-Indonesian and French descent. Did you struggle at all with
your multiracial identity when you were growing up?
Not really.
My folks gave me a firm strength of who I was. I was not alone.
Have you ever
had any fans express to you that they can relate to your music particularly
because you're mixed like them?
No, not really.
I am proud of my Asian brothers and sisters. They have been very
supportive. Thanks!
Do you get a
lot of questions about your ethnic background? If so, how do you
feel about that?
I do, and I'm
proud of it. I just them know so they can identify.
Finally, which
female artists in the music industry do you admire for the way they
have managed their careers?
Sheryl Crow
and Stevie Nicks
